Reflecting on Feedback

Spend some time reflecting on what you have learned about feedback - both receiving and giving.  What was new, what was surprising, what you already knew?  Radical Candor is new to me. However, the description of behaviours, I am familiar with. It's communication and not a conversation. What could you apply straightaway? And what would require some practice? I tend to try and find the right words (that tends to drag things out). Using something like BSI and getting ready beforehand will certainly help with delivery. What would you like to change in the way how you receive and give feedback? I've appreciate honest feedback. I endeavour to do the same (for the person I provide feedback to). This has not changed except perhaps delivery (using BSI feedback guidance). What else did you learn? What would you like the world to know about feedback? Ask for permission to give feedback. No everyone is interested in feedback or want it. If they agree, that already opens the door better c...

Agile Coaching Lab Reflections - Week 1

After performing the assigned tasks, reading the materials and answering the questions - sit down and document your reflections and learning from this week. How are you progressing towards the vision described in your letter? I have taken to diarize my day, since I started my new role as an Agile Team Coach. I find that it helps me keep things in perspective. Also things that I may need to follow-up on. I'll be honest, embarking on the Agile Coaching Lab has added to my already heavy workload. The letter writing exercise (Dear Future Me) made me think about, "What's in it for me? What do I want out of the nine-weeks of the program?" The creation of a space to share my work. To blog felt qu...

Lemonade Stand Observations

We have all heard that 'Agile' is simple enough to understand, and that it even makes-sense (to most). So why do organisations still struggle with being agile?  I had posed that, "if people felt psychologically safe at work, the shift to being agile would be less of a struggle?" But that was last night. By 10.30 this morning I had changed my mind. While I write this, my kids and their neighbours are setting up a Lemonade Stand on the street (the berm).  I watch the kids briefly. They are ready with bowl, a jug, a knife, a small table, and lemons they have gleaned from the lemon tree. "So cute", I think to myself and get back to writing. "Tsk, tsk... hello? Social distancing", I hear you say? "We're at Lockdown 3 in Auckland." I am also aware of the irony that the kids will all be back at school tomorrow, after all. Interesting times?! I get back to writing and in a bit, my youngest comes in and asks for a lemon squeezer. And in anothe...
