Agile Coaching Lab Reflection - Week 4

Yet another 'rush-of-my-feet'. And I did not get as much done as I had hope. Once again, I am exhausted as I type this.

Our Tuesday class did not go as well, as I had hoped. That was because I had not completed my part of a group exercise. I read the material quickly but did not do the activity. And that set the tone for the entire session (for me anyway). I felt quite rebellious that evening.

One of our exercise this week was to create a micro-training program with two of my fellow cohort. Had to use Loom again, which didn't turn out very well this time. I couldn't seem to get the camera working, so had to do audio only. I got there in the end (managed to hand assignment in on time, at least). We had to apply what we learned from our Tuesday session (training from the back of the room).

As a coach, there will be times when we will have to teach and train. We had learned about the 'Six Trumps' - it definitely trumps traditional learning . Here they are -

  1. Movement trumps sitting
  2. Talking trump listening
  3. Images trumps words
  4. Writing trumps reading
  5. Shorter trumps longer
  6. Different trumps same
I actually experimented with number 2, 4 and 6 during a recent retrospective. Found that engagement improve, there was a lot more confident chatter (think everyone was getting a little tired of the same old, same old).

The micro-training programme was a bit of a challenge - like trying to find a suitable time to meet.

The content, at least, came together quickly (once we got together). Our teaching module was around Incremental Development. I was trying to explanation to my fellow cohort about the differences between waterfall, incremental and iterative. This proved to be a little tougher than I thought. I said to myself,  "if I could explain it to them, then I can explain it convincingly on the video." I'm not sure if I succeeded.

That's me done for the evening.
